How are carbon fiber parts made?

Analysis of the processing process of carbon fiber parts


1. Preparation of raw materials

Carbon fiber: According to the performance requirements of the parts, select the appropriate carbon fiber type, such as standard modulus, medium modulus, high modulus, ultra-high modulus, etc.

Resin matrix: Commonly used resin matrices include epoxy resins, phenolic resins, bismaleimide resins, etc., and different resin matrices have different heat resistance, corrosion resistance, and mechanical properties.

2. Mold making

Mold Materials: Commonly used mold materials include metals, composites, silicone, etc.

Mold design: Mold design needs to consider factors such as the shape, size, and surface finish of the parts.

Mold manufacturing: According to the mold design drawings, the corresponding processing technology is used to manufacture the mold.

3. Layup

Ply design: Ply design needs to consider factors such as the force of the parts, the direction of the fibers, and the number of layers.

Lamination process: Commonly used layup processes include manual layup, automatic laying, fiber winding, etc.

4. Curing

Curing Processes: Commonly used curing processes include autoclave curing, vacuum bag curing, compression molding, etc.

Curing parameters: Curing parameters include temperature, pressure, time, etc., which need to be optimized according to the type of resin matrix and the size of the part.

5. Demoulding

Release agent: The release agent makes it easy to remove parts from the mold.

Demoulding methods: Commonly used demoulding methods include mechanical demoulding, pneumatic demoulding, etc.

6. Post-processing

Sanding: Use sandpaper or a sander to sand the surface of a part to remove burrs and blemishes.

Polishing: Polishing the surface of a part with a polishing agent to improve the surface finish.

Painting: Painting the surface of parts as needed to improve aesthetics and corrosion resistance.

7. Inspection

Visual inspection: Check whether there are cracks, bubbles, impurities and other defects on the surface of parts.

Dimensional inspection: Check whether the dimensions of the parts meet the design requirements.

Performance inspection: According to the use requirements of parts, the corresponding performance tests are carried out, such as tensile strength, bending strength, impact strength, etc.
