Introduction of Carbon Fiber Fabrics

In today’s industrial world, carbon fiber fabrics are used more and more often and the applications and attention is growing much more significant. Carbon fiber is light in weight, has high strength, high temperature resistance up to 2000oC, corrosion resistance, and fatigue resistance, which are significantly higher than those of steel and aluminum. The finished products made of carbon fiber have excellent physical and chemical properties allowing them to be widely used under different circumstances. The combination of unidirectional carbon fiber fabrics and epoxy resin are used for structural reinforcement.

Below are classifications of the common type of carbon fiber and the form they present:

Carbon fiber yarn:

1. PAN based carbon fiber fabrics ( cover over 90% of which is used in the market);

2. Viscose based carbon fiber fabrics;

3. Asphalt based carbon fiber cloth

According to carbon fiber specifications:

1. 1K carbon fiber cloth;

2. 3K carbon fiber cloth;

3. 6K carbon fiber cloth;

4. 12K carbon fiber cloth;

5. 24K and above large tow carbon fiber cloth

Three types of carbon fiber carbonization:

1. Graphitized carbon fiber cloth can withstand high temperatures of 2000-3000 degrees Celsius;

2. Carbon fiber cloth can withstand high temperatures of around 1000 degrees Celsius;

3. Pre oxidized carbon fiber cloth can withstand high temperatures of 200-300 degrees Celsius

Four types of weaving methods:

1. Woven carbon fiber cloth mainly includes: plain weave fabric, twill fabric, satin fabric, unidirectional fabric, etc;

2. Knitted carbon fiber cloth mainly includes: warp knitted fabric, weft knitted fabric, circular machine fabric (casing), flat machine fabric (ribbed fabric), etc;

3. Woven carbon fiber cloth mainly includes: casing, packing, woven tape, two-dimensional cloth, three-dimensional cloth, three-dimensional woven cloth, etc;

4. Carbon fiber pre impregnated fabrics mainly include: dry pre impregnated fabrics, wet pre impregnated fabrics, unidirectional pre impregnated fabrics, pre impregnated tapes, without pallets, with pallets, etc;

5. Carbon fiber non-woven fabric, non-woven fabric, i.e. carbon fiber felt, carbon felt, including short cut felt, continuous felt, surface felt, needle punched felt, suture felt, etc.
