Shindo Introduces Next-Generation Thin Thermoplastic Carbon Fiber Prepreg
Shindo has launched an innovative thin thermoplastic carbon fiber prepreg tape, SHIMTEQ™ TP CA140ST, marking a new milestone in the field of composite materials.
The SHIMTEQ™ TP CA140ST is a thin-layer prepreg sheet (CF/PA6) crafted through sophisticated thin-layer technology and then precision-cut to specified widths. This product is designed for bonding layers through the application of pressure and temperature above the resin's melting point during the lamination process, making it an ideal material for automatic tape laying (ATL), press molding, or thermoforming processes.
A standout feature of SHIMTEQ™ TP CA140ST is its ultra-thin profile, measuring less than 0.04 millimeters in thickness. The thinner prepreg sheets facilitate easier heating, which is particularly beneficial for maintaining consistency in continuous welding processes such as ATL. Standard widths of 3, 5, and 10 millimeters are offered, but the product can be customized to specific customer requirements in 0.1-millimeter increments. Additionally, the slitting roll can be wound in either a log or horizontal pattern, providing further flexibility in material handling.
The tape, as depicted in the provided image, utilizes PA6 as the resin matrix, but this can be modified to suit the specific properties required for various end products. The type of carbon fiber, thickness, and volume fraction of fibers (Vf) are also customizable, offering a high degree of adaptability in material design. This flexibility enables customers to develop innovative solutions that align with their unique application needs.
