How does the temperature change during the molding process of carbon fiber products?

Molding is a commonly used production process for carbon fiber products. It utilizes a hot press machine to heat and apply pressure to the mold, allowing the carbon fiber prepreg to undergo the entire process from melting to solidification. By applying pressure and heat, the carbon fiber prepreg can completely fill the interior of the mold, which improves the dimensions and overall performance of the carbon fiber product. The temperature process during the molding of carbon fiber products mainly involves several steps: mold temperature, heating rate, holding time, insulation time, and cooling conditions.

1.Mold Temperature

Firstly, when loading the mold with prepreg, if the product has a simple structure, a cold mold can be used. However, for more complex structures, it may be necessary to provide some temperature to the mold. Special attention should be paid in winter and summer, as insufficient mold temperature can lead to poor adhesion of the prepreg, which will affect the final dimensions and specifications of the product.

2.Heating Rate

After the carbon fiber prepreg is loaded and the mold is closed, it is placed in the hot press machine. The machine then begins the process of heating from the loading temperature to the required maximum temperature. The rate of heating must also be monitored; if the temperature rises too quickly, the outer resin may melt and flow while the inner part remains unmelted, potentially leading to insufficient resin in certain areas after molding and resulting in lower structural integrity.

3.Holding Temperature

After heating, a stable maximum temperature must be maintained, which is crucial for the stability of carbon fiber product molding. Normally, a forming temperature is determined based on the characteristics of the carbon fiber prepreg and resin. During the melting and molding process, the resin absorbs a certain amount of heat. If the forming temperature is too low, it can easily lead to incomplete curing of the carbon fiber product, necessitating a longer molding time and resulting in lower energy efficiency.

4.Insulation Time

When the carbon fiber product is at high temperatures, it is essential to maintain the appropriate pressure and temperature for a sufficient duration to ensure complete curing of the product. After a certain period, this ensures that the dimensions and temperature of the carbon fiber product are stable, and the flatness of the molded product is improved.

5.Cooling Time

Finally,the molded carbon fiber product needs to cool down slowly. Once the temperature drops to slightly above room temperature, demolding can proceed, ensuring better quality of the molded carbon fiber product.
