Carbon fiber is eight times harder than steel in terms of strength. It is a fiber material with a high carbon content of over 95%. It has a tensile strength of up to 3500 MPa and a tensile modulus of 250 GPa, showing superior strength performance compared to normal steel. This high strength is a critical reason why carbon fiber can replace traditional steel in many fields.
When it comes to the ease of breaking, carbon fiber strands, especially individual fibers, can break easily as they are much thinner than human hair. However, steel strands of similar size would also easily break. The high axial strength of carbon fiber strands makes them susceptible to fracture under lateral forces, which contributes to the perception that carbon fiber is prone to breaking.
