Expansion Of Toray Korea's Carbon Fiber Facility To Add 3,300 Metric Tons Of Annual Capacity

Expansion of Toray Korea's Carbon Fiber Facility to Add 3,300 Metric Tons of Annual Capacity

In response to the growing demand for high-performance carbon fiber materials in industries such as high-pressure hydrogen storage tanks, Urban Air Mobility (UAM), and aircraft fuselage construction, Toray Advanced Materials Korea has commenced the expansion of its carbon fiber manufacturing capabilities in Korea. On October 23rd, the company held a cornerstone-laying ceremony at its fourth plant in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province, marking the official start of the expansion project for its third carbon fiber production line.

This expansion will boost Toray Korea's carbon fiber production capacity by an additional 3,300 metric tons. Carbon fiber, valued for its exceptional tensile strength and low weight, is a preferred material for applications demanding both durability and lightweight construction. Market projections indicate a significant increase in demand for carbon fiber in the aforementioned sectors. The new production line, which represents a significant technological advancement, will enable Toray Advanced Materials Korea to meet the high-performance market demands of high-pressure hydrogen storage vessels and urban air mobility solutions with its high-quality, differentiated carbon fiber offerings.

news-1-1

Historically, TAK has been a pivotal player in the carbon fiber industry, commencing construction of its inaugural carbon fiber facility in Korea in 2011, which initiated an era of large-scale carbon fiber production in the country. With the current annual production capacity of 4,700 metric tons for high-performance carbon fiber, the third production line's expansion will elevate TAK's annual output to 8,000 metric tons.
