Teijin's Tenax™ Carbon Fiber Earns ISCC PLUS Certification
Teijin Corporation has announced that its Tenax™ carbon fiber and polyacrylonitrile (PAN) precursor fibers, produced at the Teijin Mishima Plant in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, have been awarded the ISCC PLUS certification, an internationally recognized standard for the sustainable sourcing of materials used in the production of circular plastics.
This achievement marks the first time globally that both carbon fiber and PAN have received this certification, highlighting Teijin's commitment to sustainability in the production of these materials.

The PAN precursor fibers are manufactured using a sustainable process that incorporates biomass-derived acrylonitrile (AN) and waste and residues from recycled materials. The production is carried out using a mass balance approach, which enables the traceability of materials throughout the supply chain. This method is particularly useful for verifying the carbon footprint when biomass-derived raw materials are blended with those derived from petroleum, ensuring the sustainability of the final product.
