KECI continues to strengthen its presence in the wind power industry by providing carbon fiber pultruded profiles for beam caps.
Recently, Kineco Exel Composites India (KECI), a joint venture between Exel Composites Plc (Finland) and Kineco Ltd (India), has signed a multi-year agreement to supply pultruded carbon fiber sheets for the production of wing masts to a major wind turbine manufacturer in Southeast Asia.

The company stated that carbon fiber sheets are a crucial component of wind turbine blades, offering world-class strength, stiffness, and lightweight characteristics. As the demand for increasingly longer blades continues to grow, this sector is currently experiencing rapid growth.
For a long time, the wind energy market has been regarded as the largest market for glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) composites in the world (measured by production volume). With the development of large turbines and longer wind blades, there is an increasing demand for high-performance, lightweight materials, leading to a growing market for carbon fiber composites. Currently, the outer shell of wind and tidal turbine blades is generally composed of infused GFRP laminated materials and foam cores. Inside the blades, rib-like shear webs are bonded to the mast caps to reinforce the structure. The mast caps are typically made of GFRP or, with increased blade length, made from pultruded carbon fiber to enhance strength.

The company stated that the agreement is based on significant research and development work conducted between KECI and the client, and both parties have agreed not to disclose the contract value. However, it was revealed that KECI will deliver the carbon fiber sheets from its new facility near Goa, India, which is currently in the final stages of construction. Deliveries are expected to begin in the second half of 2024, with initial supplies starting soon. Additionally, the company mentioned that by utilizing KECI's new factory in India, the client will be able to obtain cutting-edge carbon fiber sheets produced in India.
