World's Fastest Bullet Train Prototype Unveiled

On December 29, the prototype of the CR450 Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) was unveiled in Beijing, marking a major step forward in the "CR450 Scientific and Technological Innovation Project". Once in service, the CR450 EMU will be the world's fastest high-speed train with an operating speed of 400 kilometers per hour.

news-1-1

The CR450 EMU prototype features several key improvements:
Higher Speed: It can reach a test speed of 450 km/h, with an operating speed of 400 km/h.
Improved safety: The braking distance is shorter and the operating stability is better. Despite the higher speed, the braking distance is similar to that of a 350 km/h EMU.
Increased energy efficiency: Rolling resistance is reduced by 22% and weight is reduced by 10%.
Improved comfort: Interior noise is reduced by 2 decibels and passenger space is increased by 4%.
Advanced Intelligence: Improvements include better train control, rider safety monitoring and passenger services.
The CR450 prototype has lost approximately 40 tons and reduced energy consumption by 20%. Test data shows its body is 12% lighter than the existing CR400 Fuxing Hao train. Running resistance and energy consumption have been reduced by 20%, while braking and traction efficiency have increased by 20% and 3%, respectively. As a result, the train can reach 400 km/h with the same braking distance, noise level and energy consumption.

news-1-1

The CR450 uses advanced materials such as permanent magnets, magnesium alloys and carbon fiber. The train now weighs more than 460 tons and has a tractive power of up to 11,000 kilowatts. Improved brakes ensure safe stops even at 400 km/h. Acceleration and deceleration times have been reduced by about 12 percent and energy consumption by 20 percent.
