Carbon Fiber Composite Sheet

A carbon fiber composite sheet includes a core layer and a surface layer, wherein the surface layer is a carbon fiber polymer material, and the surface layer and the core layer are bonded by a bonding layer. The core layer can be a wood material or a fiberboard; the bonding layer can be a polyester material. The core layer can be completely sealed in the carbon fiber material to prevent the intrusion of moisture and corrosive substances.

The resins used in carbon fiber composite materials are divided into two categories, one is thermosetting resins such as epoxy resin, and the other is thermoplastic resins such as polypropylene (PP), and their characteristics are different.

Thermosetting resins appear as low-viscosity monomers on carbon fiber composite sheet. During the molding process, they are polymerized by heat to form polymers. The polymerization reaction takes a certain amount of time, and the molding time is long. However, the autoclave method used to manufacture aircraft structural parts only takes 2 to 4 hours to heat.

Using thermoplastic resins, small-sized parts can be injection molded within 10 seconds, and oversized parts can be stamped within a few minutes. The processing efficiency is also improved and the cost can be reduced. The melt viscosity of thermoplastic resins is relatively high, and large stamping machines are still required to process large-sized parts.
