From a mechanical point of view, the structure of honeycomb panels is similar to many I-beams connected. The panel is similar to the flange of the I-beam, which mainly bears the in-plane load, while the honeycomb core is similar to the web of the I-beam. Its main function is to bear shear stress and connect and support the upper and lower panel parts. However, the honeycomb core is different from the web of the I-beam. It is not sparsely reinforced but densely reinforced. The core layer is distributed and fixed in the entire panel surface, and the core layer height is much larger than the panel thickness, which makes the section inertia moment double while improving the overall stiffness, and the overall stability is also greatly increased.

When the honeycomb panel is subjected to an out-of-plane impact, it can convert the impact force into the plastic deformation energy of the honeycomb core, so it can effectively absorb the impact energy. By conducting a self-falling ball impact test on the aluminum honeycomb panel, the dent area and dent depth at the impact site were observed, and it was found that there was no crack at the impact site, indicating that the aluminum honeycomb panel has good toughness and strong impact resistance, and can absorb most of the energy through its deformation, and has a good vibration reduction effect.

The panel and core layer of the aluminum honeycomb panel are made of aluminum alloy, which is a non-flammable material and can play a good flame retardant and fireproof role. In addition, the aluminum alloy itself has good chemical stability and is resistant to corrosion and moisture.
