The Fully Domestically Produced Carbon Fiber Boom Pump Truck

Infrastructure development has long been a strength of China, with numerous projects both domestically and internationally. Infrastructure encompasses a broad range of activities requiring massive economic investment and advanced technological equipment, among which boom pump trucks are widely used. Today, carbon fiber materials are being applied to boom pump trucks, and a fully domestically produced carbon fiber boom pump truck has emerged.

Recently, China's first domestically developed carbon fiber boom pump truck debuted in Changsha, Hunan. Equipped with a highly flexible carbon fiber boom capable of executing diverse construction tasks, the vehicle utilizes Zoomlion's proprietary "Carbon Fiber Composite-High-Strength Metal Hybrid Structure Technology," developed over a decade. The successful creation of this integrated design-calculation-manufacturing-testing system signifies China's full autonomy in carbon fiber composite materials-from raw materials and manufacturing equipment to design methodologies and production processes. This achievement significantly reduces the cost of carbon fiber composite primary load-bearing components in construction machinery, accelerating the commercialization of such innovative structures.

 

To address the challenge of carbon fiber composites excelling in tension but underperforming in compression, the R&D team pioneered a "two-stage hybrid" design philosophy:

Assembly Hybrid: The boom's ends use high-strength steel structures, while the main body employs carbon fiber composites.

Semi-Metallic Hybrid: The boom body combines carbon fiber composites with layered high-strength steel plates, achieving both tensile and compressive resistance.
Based on this design and proprietary manufacturing techniques, the team established a "hybrid structure database" and developed a "precision calculation method for carbon fiber-metal hybrid booms" with less than 10% margin of error. Additionally, an innovative "additive integrated molding method" was created to produce structures with machining performance comparable to steel.
