SGL Carbon recently announced the development of temperature-resistant carbonised rayon fabrics for the production of carbon fibre composites. This carbon fibre composite material protects structural components from heat by acting as an ablative material due to its extreme temperature elasticity. In addition, the carbon fibre fabric has optimum thermal stability, mechanical properties including high strength, high quality and high purity, and is lightweight and chemically inert.

Carbon fibre fabrics are produced at SGL's Competence Centre in Valencia, California, using an advanced PLC-controlled carbonisation process that converts 100% rayon continuous filament fabrics into high quality carbon fibre fabrics at temperatures above 1,200°C using superior technology.
